ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sharon Virtue

Sharon.jpg

Sharon Virtue is a British-born artist of mixed Jamaican and Irish heritage, currently residing in the Bay Area. She works internationally in creative community development and believes that artists are agents of transformation.

As a painter, dancer, and ceramic artist, Sharon feels that it is her responsibility to give voice to the injustice of racism. Her mission is to inspire, encourage and provide access to the greater community in the creation of art.

In researching artists to help transform our Little Free Antiracist Libraries into functional pieces of community art, we found Sharon to be a superb match. Her exhibitions are award-winning and we are honored that she partnered with our organization to bring one of our libraries to life.

Read more about Sharon on her website and be sure to follow her work on Instagram at @shabanackle.

“I love the idea of having a library available for those who want to educate themselves on where racist ideas come from and how insidious they are in our culture. We should be teaching racism in schools.”
